Talk to your coding agents. Your words stay on your Mac.

Whispy turns your speech into text in any Mac app: your terminal, your editor, Slack, the browser. It transcribes on your Mac, with no account and no cloud. Offline after setup.

Terminal — claudePasted. Not sent.
> Refactor the settings loader so it reads the file once and caches it, then add a test for the case where the file is missing.
Spoken, transcribed on the Mac, and pasted. Not sent until you press Return.

Works where you already type

Whispy pastes into the input you are in. If there is none, your text waits on the clipboard.

  • Terminal
  • Claude Code
  • Codex
  • VS Code
  • Slack
  • Chrome
  • Firefox
  • Gmail

Speaking is about 3× faster than typing.

Give your agents the whole thought, not the shortest prompt you can bear to type.

In a Stanford study, people entered text by speech at 161 words per minute, three times faster than on a phone keyboard.¹ On a computer keyboard, the average typist manages about 52 words per minute.²

How it works

  1. 1

    Press ⌥Space

From any app. Choose another shortcut if you like.

  2. 2

    Speak

Say it the way you would explain it to a colleague.

  3. 3

    Press it again

Your text appears in the input you are in, and on your clipboard.

Built for talking to coding agents

Never presses Return

Whispy pastes and stops, so you read every prompt before it runs.

Your project’s words

Vocabulary replaces phrases you say often with your spelling: names, product terms, and jargon.

Never lose a prompt

Every completed transcript is on your clipboard. If a paste misses, Paste Last Transcript in the menu bar pastes it again.

One honest limit: spoken file paths and code names are still hit-or-miss. See the FAQ.

Models

Figures are single measurements on an Apple M4 Pro with 48 GB of memory. Your Mac can be slower or faster.

Parakeet v3 · fast · recommended

Download
≈469 MB one-time download
Memory
Adds ≈23 MB while loaded (29 MB no-model baseline) — separate from download size
Speed
Cached load ≈0.2 s; ≈60 s of dictation → ≈0.2 s transcription-to-clipboard. Apple M4 Pro/48 GB, single samples
Output
Silence stays empty (“No speech detected”); background speech does not leak in. Keeps instruction verbs. Numbers arrive as words and acronyms may need spacing fixes — recurring names go in Vocabulary

Language: automatic · 25 languages

Large v3 Turbo · balanced · slower alternative

Download
≈1.58 GB one-time download; first setup takes ≈76 s downloading plus ≈173 s first load
Memory
Adds ≈60 MB while loaded (29 MB no-model baseline) — separate from download size
Speed
Cached load ≈1.9 s; ≈60 s of dictation → ≈2.2 s transcription-to-clipboard, just above the fast-model target before the paste tail — ordering only. Apple M4 Pro/48 GB, single samples
Output
Digits-style numbers. Lowercase polish and an occasional invented “Thank you.” on silence need cleanup; one agent instruction lost its verb. Recurring names go in Vocabulary

Questions

Will Whispy run on my Mac?

Whispy needs a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported. We have not yet tested it on an M1 Mac with 8 GB of memory, so we make no claim for that configuration. The free trial is the best way to check it on yours.

Does it work offline?

Offline after setup, not always offline. Whispy needs the internet to download a model, to buy and activate, and to update. Dictation itself happens on your Mac. A subscription must also be confirmed online at least once every 7 days: after 7 days without a successful check, new dictation pauses until Whispy can reach our licensing provider again. An active lifetime license has no such limit.

Is my voice sent anywhere?

No. Your speech is transcribed on your Mac, and the temporary recording is deleted afterward. Activation and license checks send Polar, our licensing provider, only your license key and the identifiers of Whispy and this Mac’s activation. Whispy sends no audio, transcript, or usage data anywhere, and there are no analytics.

Which languages does it support?

English is the supported language. The recommended model detects other languages automatically, and they may work, but we make no quality claim for them.

Does Whispy clean up or rewrite what I say?

No. Whispy writes what you said. It does not rewrite your words with AI or change your tone. How punctuation and numbers come out depends on the model you choose; see Models.

Can it write file paths and code names?

Not reliably yet. For example, “src slash api dot ts” may not become src/api.ts. Vocabulary replaces phrases you say often with your own spelling, which helps with names and terms, but it is not shown to fix paths.

Does Whispy ever press Return or send a message?

Never. Whispy pastes the text and stops. You decide when to send.

What happens when the trial ends?

After 5,000 transcribed words, new dictation stops until you buy a license. Nothing is charged, there is no time limit before that, and your settings, models, and Vocabulary stay.

How many Macs can I use?

A license is for one person on up to two Macs. To move it, release a Mac in Whispy’s License settings or in the customer portal. No account is needed.

What does lifetime mean?

A one-time purchase that includes all future updates for the life of the product, with no paid upgrades later. See the lifetime terms.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, on any plan. Email [email protected] within 30 days of your first purchase for a full refund, no questions asked. See the refund terms.

I lost my license key.

Open the customer portal, enter your purchase email and the code sent to it, and the portal shows your key. It is also where you manage your subscription.
